Volvo YCC
Most cars are designed by men. However, most car buyers are women. So Volvo decided to give an all-woman team the opportunity to design a car from scratch. The vehicle that they created is fascinating because they took a completely fresh look at cars.

Think about getting in a car. In the YCC, the doors open automatically at the push of a button. The door opens up rather than out to give you protection from the rain. When the door opens, the front seat automatically slides back and the steering wheel moves up. And, there is even a part of the floor that drops down to make it easy to get in.

Now, think about what we do with our cars. Most of the time, people use the back seat for storage. So, the team designing the YCC thought, "Why not make "storage" the natural way for the back seat to be?" Then, when you need space for passengers instead of packages, the back seats pop up.

Even the gas cap is unique -- there isn't one! Instead, a motor rotates a ball-like valve when it's time to fill the tank. In the same way, the car has no hood. The only people who ever really need to get to the engine are service people. They can lift off the entire front of the car - making their job a whole lot easier.

Now remember, we did mention that an all-female team designed this concept car. So, you may be wondering what female-friendly elements, if any, the YCC possesses. There definitely are a few. The seat pads can be swapped out for different colors and fabrics, including leather, linen, and even a shimmering yellow-green embroidered fabric. The carpet is also changeable. And, the most girl-friendly item - the ponytail notch in the headrest!
