That's a Wrap!
Some doughnuts don't stop here - they move on to the chocolate icer. The icer is sort of like the glaze waterfall, but it coats the doughnuts with chocolate. After the icer, the doughnuts pass through the cooling tunnel, a refrigerated enclosed area where the chocolate hardens rapidly.

From dough to doughnut to box, the entire process takes about an hour. For walk-in customers, though, it's only about 25 minutes. There's no need for cooling time!

Packing the doughnuts

Top 'Er Off
Some glazed and filled doughnuts get a coating of sprinkles. It's all still done by hand. Krispy Kreme uses about a million pounds of sprinkles each year.

More than sprinkles adorn some Krispy Kreme doughnuts. The tasty triple chocolate doughnut is:

  • Filled with chocolate pudding
  • Hand-dipped in chocolate icing
  • Topped with chocolate brownie pieces

Delivery Central
Vans and trucks emblazoned with the Krispy Kreme logo are loaded full of Krispy Kreme originals and other Krispy Kreme products to be delivered to grocery stores, convenience stores and other retail locations. The Krispy Kreme factory store we visited serves about 14 routes with something like 26 stops per route.

The doughnuts are loaded onto delivery trucks at the back of the store.

Now the next time you take a bite of one of these delectable, melt-in-your-mouth treats you'll know how they're made!
